-Latest Game Review (Kyle Doherty)-
Lost Planet 2 Review Well I’m back again talking about Lost Planet Two. Just like the first one, in this game you are still on nice snow, ice and Akrids. The basic of this game is that you have to save the planet from some alien Akrids but if that was too easy you also have to fight the snow pirates.
If you haven’t played the first one then the snow pirates are a group of rogues, they use to be on your side but went rogue and went off on the planet to start their own resistance. They will make appearances when they need thermal energy or weapons.
Also a breif explanation of Akrids, these are alien life forms on the planet that when killed will drop thermal energy. But in this game it gets more interesting instead of just normal Akrid you get alien Akrid. Confused? You’re on a alien planet but then the alien Akrid come to the planet.
Akrid comes in categories like you can get some harmless ones (easy to kill) but can grow to category G which are giant and if they are big like that (I only found one that I could do this with) you can get eaten and kill it from the inside.
Anyway you may of noticed something that keeps coming up called thermal energy, this is energy (sorry to spoil that for you). On the planet it’s so cold due to the snow and ice you need to wear a suit to keep you alive/warm but you power it with this thermal energy.
You can get thermal energy by either killing Akrid, regeneration pods or data posts. This suit is very good but when you are about to die you can use the harmoniser which will use a bit of the thermal energy to give you life.
Another thing that uses thermal energy is mechs suits known as vital suits (VS). From what I can tell there are three new VS’s, one is just a general body armor suit, you get in it and your life is doubled. The second VS is lets say a chair with legs and guns, very basic but will act like a moving turret against them enemies and then there is a big VS that is good for VS vs. VS, its like a normal big VS but instead of jump it turns into a hover craft with missiles.
So now I tell you to how to get the thermal energy but in more depth, so killing an Akrid is a very easy way to retrieve thermal energy, every time you kill they will drop a yellow/orange goo which is the thermal energy.
The bigger the Akrid the more they drop. A regeneration pod is just a pod that sticks out the ground through-out the game, if you stand next to one then you will slowly gain energy which is good as most times you find them near Vital Suits (VS) where you might need the energy due to the weapons.
And the last way is Data Posts which are set up in most levels and in multi player, when these are activated then they will act as respawn points but if you activate one you get 500 points towards your score.
Moving on to the weapons i think all of them are the same as in the first, like the shot gun and the sniper rifle, but you also have the VS weapons which are pretty much the same but bigger and more powerful.
You do get some more weapons like the VS lance which is like a power sword, it does loads of damage like ‘one hit kills’.
Now lets discuss the multiplayer; the multiplayer is fun if you’re the sort that likes head on head action, if you download the add-on from Xbox live then you can play team kills but other then that its data post catcher.
In the game you get to start in a team and then you go off and you can work as a team or solo but the VS are great no matter which side you are on, for example if you’re a snow pirate then your VS are more half machine and half Akrid.
You can have a scorpion type VS that can use its tail as a weapon or there is a big spider type one that can hold more then one person while another drives and has one weapon the other go’s underneath with a big flame thrower.
On the other side you get the helicopter/transporter thing but that is very easy to destroy and has no weapons at all. And there’s a tank pretty simple just go around and fire but instead of jump you transform in to a normal big VS and with that you have your big war going on.
Some small things that I like in this game is the good old grapple hook that was in the old game (Lost Planet) but i think this make the game more enjoyable because you can ride on the Akrid and make longer jumps that you cant just jump over normally.
In the multiplayer where you start there is a platform which if you stand on it will throw you over the map. And as I’ve already mentioned the whole being eaten and killing from the inside.
This game is good if you like to play online but for just the campaign its a bit short, I don’t know if it was just me but I completed it in one weak so all together it took me around 3-4 hours, not too long but as I’ve stated it is ok if you’re more into online gaming or if you just want to play it because of playing the first Lost Planet.
Even though it was short I did enjoy it, one reason could be on one level you have a big gun and when I say big I mean its big. But you have to use it on a category G Akrid which sounds easy but when you have to load it and cool it down while its being pulled by two trains...you get my point.
So this game is a great play i'd rate it a 6/10. It is good but too short and easy. With the floors where the online play don’t have many maps.
So enjoy and have fun.

P.S I have brought Red Dead Redemption so i think i will be reviewing that soon. Sorry its taken time.
So keep reading and watching the podcast.
